Not too long before the coronavirus pandemic, we all had high hopes as well as plans for the rest of the year. Yet, it seems that life has been put on a speed breaker for an unlimited period of time. Somehow many of us have adjusted to this unusual situation, whereas others especially young ones might be feeling isolated or demotivated.
Covid-19 affected the complete lifestyle. Restricting people to their homes limits all of their daily life activities as there is risk outside. It is true that we often feel bored and dull as a result of the situation. But we elders realize that the lockout situation occurs all over the world as the ratio of people affected increases. But ones who are having the worse effect of it are, our children and the young ones.
Cambridge: According to a recent report from the University of Cambridge, government-imposed lockdowns in response to the coronavirus pandemic have a substantial negative impact on children’s mental health. The research, which was published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood this week, was the first of its kind to look at evidence on young children’s mental health before and during the first lockdown in the United Kingdom last spring.
I’ve found that kids of all ages, whether teenagers or pre-teens, have become depressed and tired, including my own home. The first and most important factor, in my view, is the online education system. Although children get attracted towards techno-based devices and gadgets but shifting their learning and fun time in school with their other fellows online, dries their interests. Here, I just gave a key and main example, yet there are many other things limiting their activities as being home 24/7.
In this scenario, what my opinion is, keep your conversations high with your children, listen to their issues to know from what they are going through. This will help you analyzing the issue which will later enable you to sort out things better.
Here I have gathered some tips and ideas to somehow make the issues resolved.
Other than school work, ask your kids to decrease the screen time. Rather than playing video games or spending time on social media, involve them in real games. Painting, book reading, children activity games are there, on board games and others like engaging them in cooking activities etc. Basically engage them in home based activities. Try to spend free time in some activity daily.
Another significant argument is that we spend much of our time in our homes sitting on sofas or lying on our beds, doing stuff. We should set aside some time per day to do physical activities or go for a walk. Engaging your children in some physical activities can help them feel refreshed.
Ask your children to share what they learnt after daily classes. Explore the subjects in a way that is relatable to them. Have an engaging discussion with them. Assist them with their homework. Share some ideas and tips with them. In this way, children can find homeschooling fascinating and enjoyable. Have a family time. Tell them things from your childhood, have movie nights and other enjoyable activities.
The most critical factor that I feel is a positive mindset. Positivity should be instilled in children by their parents. Inform them about the virus’s seriousness and the global situation overall. Inform them of the importance of lockdown for their protection. Tell them about how doctors battle all hours of the day and night for their countries, sacrificing themselves. How governments are devising plans and strategies to save their countries from the consequences of the virus. They should understand that whether they attend school on campus or online, they must strive just as hard to ensure a bright future.
I hope that some of these suggestions will aid in the development of a healthy community. We will eventually be able to get through the pandemic if we maintain a positive outlook and follow proper SOPs.
