Since my Childhood, I felt very honored to be called as a Muslim. It is not that I was superior or the rest were inferior but the matter of the fact that our actions, moral values and culture is one of it’s kind and upon looking our history, we used to be a man of our words and one of a kind. But presently, the situation and the norms are changing to some extent. We are falling prey to the actions and deeds which used to distinguish between us and the others. We are losing integrity in the self and are becoming self-centered to a great extent due to which we don’t held us accountable for the actions that might hurt others. Although we offer prayers, give zakat, perform fasting and are following and acting upon all the pillars of Islam but yet the actions for which we will be held accountable the most on the day of judgment will be the rights of other people which we are lacking.
The bottleneck, in my opinion towards being a good Muslim is being mean to self and the lack of integrity we hold within self in the greed of gaining or achieving something for own betterment. Moreover, interweaving our culture and actions with the West is also a major variable. These elements are hampering the evolution of Muslims to a great extent and should be immediately addressed in some way to regain the integrity, values and respect which we were inherent with.
